About the event
This walk, starting from the Kindertransport memorial on the south side of Liverpool Street Station, explores the changing fortunes of Moorfields: victim of the Plague, refuge after the Great Fire, prime bombing target in the Blitz, and now reborn as a diverse and exciting area to live and work in. Once an unhealthy fen, the district was for centuries grindingly poor. Its ancient Bone Hill became a burial ground for dissenters, it was the second home of a
madhouse popularly known as Bedlam, and its church was christened “Lousy St Luke’s”. Nevertheless, it became the base of the oldest regiment in the British Army. Now it fizzes with creativity – and great street food!
